Chapter One
“Caelum!” I shouted as I ran after my son.
“No!” Caelum shouted back. He headed for the stairs.
“Don't you dare go down those stairs, young man!”
“I don't wanna!” He ran down the stairs. Of course, he did; Cael's just like his father. Tell him not to do something, and you practically guarantee that he will.
“Caelum, you get your little naked butt back here right now!” I took the stairs two at a time and shot after my streaking son.
Daxon's soldiers and servants pulled back, out of the way of the little prince, as they snickered. I glared at them as I gave chase, one hand clutching my son's pants.
This was a new development and one that I admit shocked me. Caelum had decided to become a nudist. Not that he'd labeled himself, he'd simply gotten tired of wearing clothes and decided they weren't for him. No amount of arguing could dissuade him from the notion that clothes were a choice and not mandatory. We'd tried buying him the most stylish outfits, but that didn't work either. The pair of pants I held in my hand had cost fifty bucks—way too much money for a piece of clothing that used less than a yard of fabric and would be outgrown in a few months.
Caelum headed for the French doors that led to the back garden.
“Do not go out that door!” I shouted at him. “Danu damn it, Caelum, I'm going to burn your butt!”
Someone opened the French doors with a flourish and stepped into Caelum's path. This obstacle had hair in the deepest shade of blue, just as Caelum did, and a pair of hypnotizing blue eyes to match his stylishly short tresses. His body was sleek like a predator cat and just as muscular. Indigo tattoos peeped out from beneath the rolled-up cuffs of his shirt, trailing down his corded forearms.
Daxon, my last husband—and by that I mean that out of my four husbands, I'd married him last—scooped up our son and strode inside our home with him in a smooth movement. A bod of Daxon's head sent air magic behind him to close the doors with a soft click. Caelum shrieked like a wild cat, arching his back and trying to squirm out of his father's grip.
“Cease this shameful behavior now!” Daxon yelled, his voice full of power.
Daxon's mór—his main fey magic—is the Tromlaighe. The word means “nightmares” in Gaelic and it's an accurate description of what Dax can do. My husband can see into a person's mind and pull out their deepest, darkest fears, then manifest those fears to use as a weapon. He can also enter a person's dreams while they're asleep, but it was the power of fear that filled his voice now.
“No!” Caelum shouted back.
The air around us thickened and swirled. Night fell in a second and the sound of clicking claws and chattering teeth echoed through the darkness. Shivers went down my spine as a howl rent the air. Something boiled and billowed on my left—a huge, menacing mass coming for me down a dark corridor even though there was supposed to be a wall there. I knew those sounds and recognized that roiling cloud.
“The Sluagh,” I whispered in horror.
“Begone!” Daxon roared.
Light returned, banishing the horrifying sights and sounds, and I was left staring at my son in shock. Caelum, in turn, stared up at his father with wide, purple eyes, the silver spokes of stars that laid over his irises glowing. Their glow died down as he began to tremble and then cry.
“This has gone too far, and I have ceased to be amused,” Daxon snarled as he went to the nearest couch and sat down.
Dax shoved Caelum down across his knees and started to spank him. The crack of his hand on our son's bare behind resounded through the room. Suddenly, everyone else had somewhere to be. Our guards and staff scattered like rats off a sinking ship. Caelum flinched, but it took a few seconds for the pain and humiliation to register with him. Then he started to wail.
“You will obey your parents,” Daxon declared. “And you will not use your magic again until you are proper
ly trained.” He kept spanking Caelum until that tiny butt was red. Then he lifted the little boy into his arms and hugged him. “I love you, Son, but you are sorely trying my patience.”
Caelum's crying trickled down to a sniffling. “I'm sorry, Father.”
“You are forgiven,” Daxon said immediately and set Cael on his feet. “Now, put on your pants, Caelum Tromlaighe. Civilized people do not go around naked,” Daxon's tone slid into a proud tone, and he grinned at Caelum's widening stare. “Yes, Cael, you just came into your mór.” His expression went stern. “But it's disgraceful that you used it against your mother.”
Caelum sniffed and looked at me. “I didn't mean to, Mommy. I'm sorry.”
“I know, baby. Magic is tricky. That's why you need to be trained before you use it.” I knelt down. “Come here.”
Caelum ran into my arms, and I cradled him against my chest as he started crying again.
“That spanking would have hurt a lot less if you'd been wearing pants,” I teased him as I tapped his pants on his nose and got a little giggle out of him.
Despite my light tone, I looked up at Daxon over Caelum's head and widened my eyes in dismay. Daxon only grinned again. A fairy didn't have a surname until their mór was established, and that mór wasn't always passed down from one of their parents. Daxon's mór was a particularly strong one, powerful enough to hold a throne, and we'd both been hoping that Caelum would inherit it. I just hadn't realized what exactly that would mean for us as his parents. The term “nightmare child” had just taken on a new meaning.
If I hadn't been comforting my naked, nightmarish son, I would have groaned in misery, but Daxon couldn't stop smiling. Goddess help us.
Chapter Two
“Nap time,” I sighed as I settled back onto the bed. “My favorite time of the day.”
“Mine as well,” Daxon murmured as he settled between my thighs.
Dax languidly rubbed his face against my sex, recently depilated so that only a small triangle of hair crowned it. I had it done at Foxy, a fey salon Daxon owned. The Kitsunes there can remove hair painlessly with magic, and it lasts longer than waxing. My husbands preferred my little kitty smooth, so that's how it stayed. And it wasn't just to please them. When I was bare down there, they gave that area even more attention than usual, often doing what Daxon was now—rubbing their faces against it. They said it felt like velvet, and I happened to love the feel of it too. Above everything, it simply felt cleaner. But it was the extra attention it got me, all the purring, face rubs, and stroking hands (sometimes slipped down my pants at inappropriate times), that inspired me to keep myself silky smooth.
Daxon's shoulders nudged my legs further apart as he shook his face against me, warming me up for—oh, sweet Danu! His tongue swept upward, parting me, then started doing this lazy twirling that had my eyes rolling back. Daxon's fingers worked my liquid desire over me, taking his time to get me slippery before he eased inside. With a low growl, his tongue flicked at the bundle of nerves that was key to making me scream. My hands went to his head, pulling on his cerulean hair.
“Just a little more, baby,” I whispered.
Daxon sucked on me, and my thighs clenched around him as I screamed and broke into thousands of pieces of ecstasy. As I trembled, he rose onto his forearms and climbed up my body. His lips sought mine, seasoned with my desire, and his hard shaft found its way home. Arms clutched tightly around him, I rode my climax over its precipice and then immediately swooped back up. Something chimed and it felt like another aspect of our lovemaking. Like hearing a chorus of angels singing us to completion.
“Fuck off,” Daxon growled at the angels.
“What?” I gaped at him.
The chiming came again, and I regained enough of my senses to recognize what it was—a crystal ball. And not the crystal ball in Daxon's office down the hall, but the slice of crystal that had been taken from an enchanted ball and made into my scry phone—a slice of cellphone-sized crystal set in a leather case. Crystal balls are used by the Fey to communicate like a video call, except these calls could be made from any realm, to anyone who was near an enchanted ball, or a slice of it. The crystal closest to the target would chime with an incoming scry, and the crystal closest to us happened to be my scry phone in my purse on the dresser.
“Oh,” I muttered. “Ignore it. Don't stop.”
“I didn't intend to,” Daxon growled and went back to kissing me as his body pumped deeply into mine.
My husbands and I had separate homes, though we didn't exactly live apart. Three of them lived in the Fairy Realm, while Daxon lived in the Human Realm. In Fairy, Raza ruled the Unseelie Kingdom and so lived there with our daughter, Shahzadi. Tiernan ruled the Seelie Kingdom and lived in Castle Seelie with our son, Falcas. Killian was Prince of the Twilight Kingdom and lived there with my father and our daughter, Rowan. That is, when he wasn't working for either the Human or Fairy Councils as an Ambassador on Earth. Last, but not least, Daxon ruled the Fairy Undergrounds of Earth, so he lived in Los Angeles with Caelum.
Despite being royalty and having lots of help to raise our babies, all of us played huge roles in our children's lives. Children were precious to the Fey. Fairy fertility cycles came only once a century, probably a good thing since the Fey were immortal, though it meant that there weren't a lot of children in Fairy. There are a bit more now that I've started a fostering program for human children, but those were human children, not fey, and I'm getting off subject.
As immortals, my husbands and I would hopefully have forever with our children, but we knew their childhoods would breeze by, and none of us wanted to miss out on these precious years. So, we made sure to experience as much of the laughter, love, and even headaches that came with parenthood, making memories we could treasure forever. For me, that meant dividing my time between them, taking three-day shifts with my scattered family. I couldn't be as much a part of their lives as I wanted to be, but I spent as much time with my children as I could.
Which meant that my husbands and I had to take these moments of adult-time whenever we could get them. The scry could wait.
We hadn't even bothered with any of Daxon's delightful toys this time, we'd been too desperate for each other. Or perhaps desperate to not be interrupted by a child waking up from nap time early. Go figure that we'd be interrupted in another way. Daxon sped up, his panting breaths and tense shoulders telling me he was close. I lifted my hips, rubbing myself against him, hoping for one last hoorah before he came. I was nearly there, gripping his broad shoulders and grinding myself against him urgently.
“That's it, baby,” he growled in my ear. “Rub that sweet pussy on me.”
“Nearly. There,” I panted as I stroked the beautiful indigo tattoos on his chest. “Harder, Daxon!”
“Yes, my Queen.” Grinning wickedly, Daxon started slamming into me like a wild thing, his body gleaming with sweat and his eyes hot with desire and love.
He looked magnificent above me, with that exotic hair and savage expression. His shaft was like a missing piece of me, come home at last. I clutched at it with quivering muscles inside my body. Nearly there.
“I love you, baby.” I stroked the sharp angle of Daxon's cheek.
The chiming started again.
Dax growled and lost his rhythm. I grabbed his face and kissed him. Tongue twining viciously with mine, he recovered, putting an extra burst of strength into his urgent slams. Completion found us at last, and we came together in a glorious wave of grasping hands and kiss-smothered screams. His body emptied into mine, and mine accepted it as its due. Dax collapsed on me, his face pillowed on my breast and his breath fanning my nipple. He let out a satisfied rumble as I ran my hands over the muscles of his back.
The chiming continued.
“I am going to murder whoever that is,” Daxon growled and pushed up off me.
I laughed and then sighed as I watched him cross the bedroom in all his naked glory. The tattoo of an epic battle on his back seemed ominous as he p
rowled to my purse, his muscles moving the warriors and weapons to make the scene come to life. Dax yanked the phone out of my purse, flicked open the case, and rubbed a finger across the slice of crystal.
“Oh, King Daxon!” a man's voice exclaimed. “I hope I wasn't interrupting.”
“You scried twice in less than ten minutes, and I'm answering instead of Seren,” Daxon growled. “What do you think, Councilman?”
I sighed and climbed out of bed to shrug into my wrap dress. I had recognized the voice, even before Daxon added the title, and as much fun as it was to let Dax torment High Councilman Timberstride, I couldn't let it go on for long. I outranked him, of course, but he was still on the High Fairy Council—the Council that created and enforced laws along with the Human Council, the Coven, and the Casters—and he deserved my respect. Plus, he had never let the fact that I had married his daughter's ex-husband affect our relationship. That alone won him brownie points with me.
I went to Daxon and held out my hand for the phone, grimacing when I heard Timberstride apologize profusely.
“She's dressed now,” Daxon interrupted Timberstride's nervous rambling and handed me the phone without another word to the councilman.
Dax prized pleasure above most things, especially erotic pleasure, and interrupting said pleasure was a cardinal sin in his eyes. Those who sinned against Daxon did not warrant his respect.
